I have been offer a job position at a bank. I was told by the interviewer that I will have a credit check run on me. I told her that I have a very low credit score of 510 due to careless mistakes when I was younger and she said thats ok we dont look at your credit score we look for defaults & judgements. I ran my credit report & I see no judgements but I do have a loan from 2000, with a different credit union , that I made payments for a year on time & then stopped. The status of the loan states OPEN. I really need this job & I need to know if this will keep me from not getting the position?I have been told that it probably will keep me from getting the job, by friends. But then I was told that if it is over 2 -4 years old that it probably wont effect me.PLEASE HELP!!!
I AM DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS.

Are you saying your $2000 loan from the credit union was paid in full, but it says it still not paid? If so, you need to get verification from the Credit Union, a document or statement that this account is now closed. Then you will need to submit this paperwork to the reporting agencies to clear this up. Most credit report agencies do not have accurate reports or are behind in updating information, so if you can speed things up by sending this information to them, you can clean this mistake up. I would speak with a live person and fax or email your document ASAP to this person specifically. Keep records of everything for your reference, who you spoke with and when you sent in the paperwork.

Also since the credit union loan is not reported as a default nor judgment, I don't see any worry in you getting the job, however, I cannot predict this as the bank where you want to work is comparing your interview performance with those of other candidates before making their ultimate decision.

Reply to Lawyer, Broker 's Post: My loan was not paid in full & the loan was last reported on my credit report in the year of 2000.I did make payments for a year & then stopped. The remaining balance owed is 1060.00.The status of loan is recorded as OPEN on my credit report. So therefore, I really need to know if that on my credit report from a credit union would affect me getting the postion at the bank.I will pay the remaining balance when I get the money, but do not have that at this time.So I need an opinion.

Thank you for your reply. Employers conduct credit verification to ensure if you are a risk or a potential risk in dealing with money, this is why they look for defaults or judgments placed on your credit report. As the credit union has not considered your balance as a default or judgment, I don't personally see why the bank would not offer you a position merely because the account is open. The credit union has not red flagged you and so the employer should not consider you a risk. I don't see how the bank would not offer you a position just on the facts you provided.
