I''ve been surplussed from my position at AT&T

Sent to Job Experts May 13 10:43 AM

I''ve been surplussed from my position at AT&T due to realignment of business units. I received an excellent review and the largest raise in my 9 years at the company. My chain-of-command was eliminated and reassigned within the company. That left me and my team with no one at the decision table. My job was handed to managers from other business units and other regions with no experience. In addition, this past January, my team was reduced from 10 to 3 managers. Only the three strongest stayed - the rest were reassigned. In April, the three remaining were surplussed. Are there any laws against this unethical treatment?

Hi Mack,

Unless you have a contract with AT&T they may realign their workforce in any manner they wish. If you don't have a contract and you feel you have been discriminated against in regard to the downsizing of your position you may contact the EEOC for help. I understand your position and the feeling of being treated unethically. The EEOC will be your guide as well as represent you. You can find all pertinent information at their site l listed below. I suggest you give them a call before considering any other actions, especially retaining an attorney.

Because you are management I will assume there is no Union available to you. Contacting your union would be another step. I do feel you will get the proper guidance from the EEOC in this particular situation.

U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Regards and best of luck!

~Dee
